Habit systems fail when you've already decided you're the kind of person who can't stick to things. That belief is what Dweck spent decades studying. Her split between fixed and growth mindset sounds simple written down, and it lands harder in practice, because you'll recognize your own excuses in her examples. Most readers report an uncomfortable moment somewhere in the first hundred pages.

What makes this an upgrade rather than a starting point is what it changes. The other books adjust your behavior. This one adjusts how you interpret a setback — whether a missed week means you failed or means you're mid-process.
