Why it's worth it

The Presto 07062 gives you 22 inches of textured ceramic cooking surface, enough for eight to ten pancakes at once. The handles pop off for flat cabinet storage, and with the heat control removed, the whole griddle goes in the sink.

For a family breakfast, surface area beats every other feature. Twenty-two inches means you drop the whole batch at once and flip it at once. A family of four eats hot pancakes together in about ten minutes instead of sitting through two or three rounds. That's the difference between a relaxed Saturday and standing at the counter while everyone else is already done eating.

The cooking surface is a textured ceramic coating over heavy cast aluminum, and that combination is doing more work than it sounds like. Cast aluminum spreads heat instead of concentrating it right over the element, and Presto says the plate is virtually warp-proof — which matters, since a warped griddle pools butter in the low spots. The texture also helps thick buttermilk or cornmeal batter release cleanly.
