Why it's worth it

The BAKFlip MX4 is a hard folding cover with triple-layer aluminum panels, a no-drill clamp install and seals built for real weather. It folds flat to the cab so you keep the entire bed, and it's the cover truck publications keep putting at the top.

This is the cover most truck owners should start and stop with. BAK rates the MX4's triple-layer aluminum panels for 400 pounds of evenly distributed static weight, one of the highest numbers in the hard tri-fold class. So a stack of two-by-fours or a loaded cooler on top isn't a problem. The panels fold to the cab and lock upright, which gives you the whole bed when you need it, and you can drive that way.

Weather sealing is where a hard cover earns its keep. Car and Driver's water-ingress testing found the best hard tri-folds let less than 2 ounces into the bed per 15-minute heavy-rain cycle, while soft covers averaged six to twelve. BAK redesigned the MX4's seals and clamps for a tighter fit against the rails, and owner feedback lines up with that — dry tools after an overnight storm is the recurring theme.
