Why it's worth it

OXO's mitt is tapered to your arm, so it doesn't flop around while you carry a hot pan across the kitchen. The non-slip pattern holds well, the silicone wipes clean, and the 13-inch length still covers your wrist. Note that it's sold as a single mitt.

The taper is the whole idea. Most silicone mitts are cut like a paper bag, but this one narrows toward the forearm, so it stays put when you twist your wrist to slide a sheet pan out. Less material bunches between your palm and the pan, and you can feel what you're holding. For everyday roasting and baking, that's a nicer experience than wrestling a loose sack.

Buy this one if the bulk of other silicone mitts annoys you. The shell is thinner and more flexible than the Homwe, so your fingers actually bend inside it. Lids, small dishes and awkward handles get easier. What you give up is heat headroom and forearm coverage — this is a quick-grab mitt, not something to hold against a hot rack while you rearrange the oven.
