Why it's worth it

The Waste King Legend L-8000 uses a 1 HP permanent magnet motor spinning at 2800 RPM, with a cord pre-installed and a removable splash guard. This listing bundles it with a spare stopper and splash guard, which is the part that wears out first.

Waste King takes the opposite approach to InSinkErator. Instead of a slow, high-torque induction motor, you get a permanent magnet motor at 2800 RPM. High speed keeps stringy waste from wrapping and stalling, so celery strings and artichoke leaves get flung apart rather than wound around the plate. Both approaches work. They just fail differently, and this one jams less on fibrous stuff.

It weighs less than the insulated InSinkErator units and it's easier to muscle into place alone. The splash guard pops out for cleaning, which sounds trivial until you've tried to scrub the underside of a fixed rubber baffle. The bundled spare means you have a replacement when the original goes stiff and grimy.
