Home Accents 12 ft. Giant-Sized Skeleton with LifeEyes

Why it's worth it

A 12-foot skeleton with animated LifeEyes that has anchored front yards since the giant-skeleton craze began. It's visible from far down the block, it works with any ground fogger, and it draws compliments from strangers all month.

Scale is the simplest special effect there is. A 12-foot skeleton standing in a yard reads from several houses away, at night, from a moving car — which is where most people actually see your display. The LifeEyes let you switch the eye effect, and owners consistently mention the eyes as the detail that gets remarked on up close.

Pair it with a ground fogger and you have a complete scene. That combination beats one expensive animatronic almost every time. Community surveys of home haunters put fog at the top of the list of atmospheric upgrades, ahead of both lighting and sound. A giant skeleton half-obscured in low fog looks like a set piece. The same skeleton on bare grass looks like a lawn ornament.

What we like

• +Scale is the simplest special effect there is
• +Pair it with a ground fogger and you have a complete scene
• +It ships at around 90 pounds by freight in a genuinely enormous box, and it comes apart for storage — which is the part people…
• +Assembly takes a bit of patience

What to know

• –The base is smaller than you'd expect for something this tall, and the whole thing is a sail in wind
• –The power plug placement is awkward and several owners wish it were positioned better for running a cord discreetly
• –There's a scattering of owner reports about seller and fulfillment problems on this listing rather than the product itself
