Why it's worth it

A water-resistant shell with a double-layer fleece lining, a back zipper and two D-rings built in. It comes in seven sizes and covers most breeds, and owners of awkwardly proportioned dogs report it fits when other coats don't.

This is the coat that solves the harness problem. Two D-rings sit on the outside, so you clip the leash to the coat and skip the layering entirely. No threading a harness ring through a slot. No putting the harness on over the jacket and squashing the fleece flat. If you've ever stood in a cold entryway wrestling gear onto a wiggling dog, you'll notice the difference the first morning.

The zipper runs down the back, which sounds minor and isn't. You drop the coat over your dog, zip once, and you're out the door.
