Why it's worth it

It has the same 6-liter tank and app control as our top pick, plus a warm-mist mode that starts working in about five minutes. It holds humidity to a tighter tolerance and covers a bit more floor, but the app and the brand are both less proven.

Warm mist is the reason to choose this one. It heats water to about 133 degrees and puts moisture in the air within roughly five minutes, which is exactly what you want during a head cold or a hard cold snap. Cool mist is there too, so you're not stuck heating your bedroom when the weather turns. Most people should treat warm mist as a seasonal setting, not the default.

It's the more precise machine of the two. Dreo rates the auto mode to hold within 5 percent of your target and lets you set anywhere from 30 to 90 percent, so you can park it at 45 and stop thinking about it. Coverage is rated to 550 square feet, and the tank goes about 60 hours on low. There's a 12-hour timer and a status light you can read from across the room.
