Why it's worth it

The Andis ProClip pairs a fast rotary motor with five speed settings and a digital readout, so you can dial the tool to the coat instead of forcing it. It charges over USB-C and runs corded, which makes it hard to strand mid-groom.

The rotary motor runs 4,500 to 6,500 strokes per minute, and you feel it in a heavy coat. That's the fastest range in this guide by a wide margin. On a dense retriever or a husky undercoat, speed is what keeps the blade cutting instead of pulling. Pulling is what makes a dog flinch and then dread the clipper the next time you get it out.

Five speeds let you match the tool to the dog, not the other way around. Drop it low for a nervous terrier's face and the noise and vibration drop with it. Push it high for the chest and haunches of a big dog. Single-speed clippers force a compromise on one end or the other, and you notice it most on mixed coats.
