This kit pairs a 575 in.-lb. brushless hammer drill with a 2-in-1 impact driver that also takes sockets, plus two 2 Ah batteries, a charger, belt clips and a bag. That covers most of what a house or a jobsite asks of you.

The 2-in-1 impact driver is what makes this kit unusual. Most combo kits hand you a hex-only driver and stop there. The GDX18V-285 adds a friction ring next to the hex chuck, so you can slip a socket on it, break loose a lag bolt or a rusted trailer nut, then go back to driving screws. If you work on a car, a fence or a deck, that's a second tool you don't have to buy.

The hammer drill handles the ordinary work without drama. The GSB18V-65 puts out up to 575 in.-lbs. of torque and has a hammer mode, so anchors in brick or block are well within reach. Both tools use brushless motors, which run cooler and stretch runtime compared with the brushed drills people usually replace. Each has an LED at the nose, and both come with belt clips.
