Why it's worth it

Induction heating warms the whole inner pot with an electromagnetic field instead of a plate under the bottom. That means fewer scorched grains at the edges and more consistent texture — plus GABA and germinated brown rice settings you won't find lower down.

Induction is the meaningful upgrade over fuzzy logic, not just a more expensive version of it. A standard cooker heats from a plate underneath, so the bottom runs hotter than the top. IH turns the pot itself into the heating element. Serious Eats found this produces measurably more even temperature distribution and fewer scorched or undercooked grains. In practice, you get a pot of rice that tastes the same at the edge as it does in the middle.

The healthy-grain menu is where this pulls furthest ahead. Brown rice, GABA brown rice, and germinated brown rice each get their own program — GABA involves holding the rice at a specific warm temperature for a couple of hours to sprout it before cooking, which a basic cooker simply cannot do. If whole grains are the point of your rice cooker, this is the one.
