Why it's worth it

Dyson's Digital Motorbar head de-tangles long hair as you clean, and the second fluffy head throws a laser across hard floors to light up dander you'd walk past. It's the one we'd hand to someone with a shedding golden, dark hardwood, and no patience for cutting hair off a brushroll.

The anti-tangle head is the reason to buy this one. The Digital Motorbar is built to feed long hair through and down into the bin instead of letting it spool around the bar. If you've ever knelt on a kitchen floor with scissors, working a rope of fur off a brushroll, you already know why that matters more than another few air watts.

The second head is the party trick that turns out to be useful. A laser sits at the front edge of the Fluffy Optic head and rakes across hard floors at a low angle, so dust and short cat hair throw a shadow. Owners of dark floors consistently say they were unnerved by how much they'd been missing. On carpet it does nothing, so you'll swap heads.
