Why it's worth it
Its corrosion-resistant plating and national retail availability make it a convenient add-on, but saltwater crabbers need a purpose-built trap for their primary gear.
From our review of 7 crab pots and lobster traps, by Genevieve Dubois, Home & Living Expert
What we like
- +Corrosion-resistant plating works in both freshwater and saltwater environments
- +Eliminates ongoing minnow-purchase costs for anglers who also rely on live bait
- +Versatile use as a bait trap, crawfish trap, or small-species supplemental trap
- +Available at virtually every Walmart and sporting goods chain nationally — easiest to source of any trap on this list
What to know
- –Designed primarily as a minnow and bait trap — not suitable as a primary blue crab or Dungeness trap
- –Does not meet size or mesh requirements for legal saltwater crab trapping in most US coastal states
- –No included deployment line, float, or bait container specific to saltwater use
