Why it's worth it

This came out of LEGO Ideas, which means a fan designed it and at least 10,000 people voted for it before LEGO would even consider producing it. That process tends to produce sets with a built-in audience, and this one is aimed squarely at anyone who plays, used to play, or just loves the object.

The mechanics are the point. Each of the twenty-five keys moves independently with its own hammer, the fallboard opens, the pedals and dampers move, and the lid props up. The keyboard comes out so you can see the action underneath. It's the closest LEGO gets to giving someone a real machine to take apart.
