Why it's worth it

The 2-hour protection window is a hard ceiling for plant-based formulas. The three-pack at $17.99 is portable and honest about its limitations.

From our review of 8 mosquito repellents for outdoors, by Genevieve Dubois, Home & Living Expert

What we like

  • +DEET-free and picaridin-free — plant-based formula with essential oils
  • +Solid balm format — TSA-friendly, no liquid restrictions, pocket-portable
  • +Dermatologist-tested and gentle on sensitive skin
  • +B Corp certified, free from added fragrances and dyes

What to know

  • –Only 2 hours protection against mosquitoes — requires very frequent reapplication
  • –Only 1 hour protection against ticks — insufficient for Lyme-risk hiking environments
  • –Essential oils are not EPA-registered — not proven for disease-carrying mosquitoes
