This color temperature closely matches modern factory OEM LEDs, produces a clean neutral white light with excellent road contrast, and performs consistently in rain and fog. 6,000K–6,500K is slightly cooler and looks visually striking in dry conditions, but the blue shift can reduce contrast perception in precipitation by scattering off water droplets. Are LED headlights better in rain and fog than halogens?
In rain, LED headlights are generally superior to halogen due to their higher output, faster full-brightness activation, and whiter light that improves lane marking contrast. In dense fog, however, the higher color temperature of most LEDs (6,000K+) can create more backscatter off water droplets than warmer halogen, reducing forward visibility. The AAA headlight safety study found that lamp intensity and beam control matter more than light source type in adverse weather. For true fog conditions, dedicated 3,000K amber fog light LEDs outperform both standard white LEDs and halogen by a significant margin. Can I put LED bulbs in my reflector housing without blinding oncoming drivers?
Yes, but it requires careful product selection and post-installation beam alignment. The primary risk with LED replacements in reflector housings is scatter - light directed sideways or upward into oncoming lanes because the LED chip position differs from the halogen filament position the optics were designed for. To minimize this risk: choose LEDs with precise chip positioning (the SEALIGHT H11/H9/H8/H16's ultra-slim copper substrate is the most controlled option for reflector use in this guide), and always verify and adjust beam aim using a wall target at 25 feet after installation. Avoid high-lumen budget LEDs with multiple chip arrays in reflector housings - the extra chips compound the scatter problem significantly.
What's the difference between H11, 9005, and H7 headlight bulbs?
These are different bulb base standards used in different vehicles and beam functions - they are not interchangeable sockets. H11 is one of the most common low-beam fitments, found across a broad range of Japanese, Korean, and domestic vehicles built from 2005 onward; H8 and H9 share the same socket base. 9005 (also called HB3) is the standard high-beam fitment on most North American market vehicles.
