What is the difference between a USB-C hub and a docking station?

Do I need Thunderbolt 4 or will a regular USB-C dock work?

Why does my laptop charge slowly when connected to a hub?

Do USB-C hubs cause lag or quality issues with external monitors?
Thunderbolt 4 and native USB4 docks do not introduce display lag or quality degradation - the signal passes through at full fidelity. DisplayLink docks can produce subtle compression artifacts or a very slight latency increase, imperceptible for productivity tasks but occasionally visible in video playback or fast UI animations.
